Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has slammed coach Carlo Ancelotti’s tactics and the team’s performance following Real Madrid’s heavy defeat at home to Barcelona. Barcelona beat league leaders Real Madrid by four goals to nil.
The fact that Barcelona would have scored at least eight goals if they had taken full advantage of the golden opportunity is a testament to how far Real Madrid have failed in the competition. That’s why Quartua criticized the team’s performance in harsh language.
“Today we gave the club an unacceptable picture. You may not have noticed that it was Barcelona who played in the Europa League on Thursday, even without some players. They got a lot of space. We could not stand together and score goals.”
“They came to the front post exactly ahead of the first goal. We did nothing for the second goal. We expected to be back after the break, but within ten seconds there was a one-on-one situation with Ferran Torres and me.” Quartua told the movie after the match.
“We had to talk about tactics within the team. It didn’t work out well in the beginning and second half of the match. That’s not where it should be discussed. We started well and Fed Valverde got a chance and was saved by Ter Stegen.
“It was even harder for us not to find a player who could play in the Outer Areas for free. We should never have started like that in the second half. This badge was meant to be fought, and we did not do that in the second half. It should have been a bigger defeat.” Quartua clarified.
