Laâyoune: The “Blue Flag” raised for the 17th consecutive time on Foum El Oued beach

This ceremony, which took place in the presence of the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, elected officials, heads of decentralized services and actors from civil society, comes in rewards the collective and sustained efforts made by local authorities and several partners, in order to preserve the cleanliness of Foum El-Oued beach.

The granting of this label is based on compliance with four main criteria, namely the quality of bathing water, information and awareness of the environment and hygiene and safety, as well as the development and management.

Stretching over 7 km, the beach has been alive since the start of the summer season, like other beaches in the Kingdom, to the rhythm of intense activities relating to cleaning, awareness and environmental education in as part of a sustained synergy aimed at consolidating the attractiveness of the site.

In a statement to MAP, the president of the commune of Foum El Oued, Mohamed Ayach indicated that the granting of this prestigious label to the beach of Foum El Oued is intended to be recognition of the efforts of all stakeholders and partners, in with a view to ensuring compliance with criteria linked to cleanliness, the quality of bathing water, organization and safety.

In this regard, he indicated that a series of measures have been taken, notably relating to the development of the cornice and the establishment of accessibility, surveillance cameras, public lighting and other services.

The “Blue Flag” label is an international reference in the field of the quality of seaside sites, issued by the FEE to distinguish seaside sites which meet quality and safety criteria.

Obtaining it requires upgrading the candidate site by fulfilling a certain number of criteria, particularly in the areas of hygiene, cleanliness and safety as well as awareness of sustainable development and sports, cultural and artistic activities.

Its renewal is dependent on the maintenance and continuous improvement of achievements on the basis of an annual reassessment by the FEE of the state of the beneficiary beaches.

The international Blue Flag label will fly on 27 beaches, four marinas and, for the first time in Morocco, on a mountain lake during the 2024 summer season.

With 32 labeled sites in total, the Kingdom ranks 18th among the 43 countries in the Northern Hemisphere for the number of sites labeled Blue Flag.
