Dongwon F&B frozen dumpling dim sum products are leading the third wave in the domestic frozen dumpling market. Since its first introduction in 2020, sales have doubled every year and are expected to exceed 100 billion won in cumulative sales.

Dongwon F&B announced on the 26th that according to market research company MarketLink, dim sum ranked first in market share among Naedong dumpling items at retail stores. Market Link is said to have derived the results by investigating items sold in large supermarkets, corporate chain supermarkets, cooperative supermarkets, individual supermarkets, and convenience stores.

The domestic frozen dumpling market expanded in earnest with the spread of refrigerators in the late 1980s. From regular dumplings to king dumplings, dim sum has recently been gaining popularity. In the case of Dongwon F&B, it spent three years researching and developing the dim sum market to discover new flavors in addition to the existing Kaesong King Dumplings and Potato Dumplings. With the four types of dim sum introduced in this way (shrimp hagau, chive changfun, xiao long bao, and fan kyo), it has become at the center of a new wave in the domestic frozen dumpling market.

According to Dongwon F&B, the four types of dim sum are differentiated from other products in their manufacturing method. It was introduced that its characteristic feature is that it harmonizes the chewy texture with the translucent blood by kneading the starch with water boiled at a temperature of over 100℃. Dim sum cooked in a steamer is quickly frozen at -30℃. It is said that the freshness of the product has also been improved by applying a cold chain method that prevents water vapor from freezing and forming ice particles and distributes it at a temperature below -18℃.

Since December 2020, when the product was launched, sales of Dongwon F&B’s dim sum products have amounted to 225 million units (approximately 10 million bags) per piece, with cumulative sales expected to exceed KRW 100 billion, Dongwon F&B said.

An official from Dongwon F&B said, “Dim sum, which pioneered a new market by combining the original manufacturing technology accumulated over 30 years, is growing twice every year,” and added, “We will continue our efforts to introduce new tastes to consumers.”
