New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor MP has criticized the hike in petrol and diesel prices in the country. Tharoor’s response was that the central government was waiting for the elections in five states to end. He also wrote on Facebook that fuel prices were soaring, breaking all previous records. Fuel prices have remained unchanged for four months following elections in five states.

Petrol price was hiked by 87 paise per liter. Diesel price was hiked by 85 paise per liter. Despite reports that fuel prices will rise sharply after the election results, the current rise comes more than a week after the results came out. There has also been a sharp rise in crude oil prices. There is an increase of seven per cent. Crude is currently trading at $ 117 a barrel in international markets. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has informed dealers that the new change in fuel prices, which has been unchanged for 137 days, will come into effect from 6 am on March 22.
