Workers at Apple Stores or authorized service providers can change the stand that came with the Studio Display, according to a report by MacRumors, which cites internal company documents.
This is contrary to the warning on the Studio Display purchase page, which states that you must select a stand at the time of purchase because it is integrated and non-interchangeable.
The company offers three different Studio Display Stand options. And you can get a standard stand with tilt adjustments or a VESA adapter to attach the monitor to external arms without paying anything extra.
And if you want a height-adjustable stand from the company, you’ll have to pay an extra $400. The company says that you decide when you buy the monitor. But the new report indicates that you can pay to change the holder later if you change your mind.
For example, if a customer purchases a Studio Display with a standard tilt stand and later decides they want to use a VESA adapter, they can book a service appointment with the company’s store or company-authorized service provider and install one.
Likewise, if a customer purchases a Studio Display with a tilt stand and later decides that they want a tilt and height stand, the company’s store or an authorized company service provider can fulfill that request. Pricing varies by region, type of rack or rack being installed, and labor cost.
Standalone mounts and VESA mount upgrade kits are only available to authorized technicians. It is not sold through the company’s online store.
And there seem to be many differences between what the company says and the reality about Studio Display. The Studio Display Important Handling Information page says that the monitor’s power cable is not removable, but the fact is that it is.
Externally, the hinge looks very similar to the hinge on Apple’s Cinema HD Display from the early 2000s. According to an archived version of the service manual, removing the stand of this monitor requires two screws to be removed.
This contradicts Apple’s statements
Studio Display orders started reaching customers last week. Key features include the 27-inch screen, 5K resolution and 12MP ultra-wide camera with Center Stage. There’s also a six-speaker audio system with Spatial Audio, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports.
Pricing starts at $1,599 in the US for a model with a standard pan and tilt stand. With many upgrade options available.
