Shafi said that the struggle against K Rail was not an anti-national struggle, adding that it was a fascist way of linking popular struggles with terrorism and that it was a positive protest at the film festival. Leaders, including former MLA KS Sabrinathan, took part in the protest in front of the Tagore Theater.
Earlier, a section of delegates had come out at the fair declaring solidarity with K Rail. They announced their support for the project by lighting candles under the banner ‘K for Kerala, Solidarity for K-Rail’.

Malayalam film director Omar Lulu also came out in support of the project. The director was criticized for endorsing the project, but Omar Lulu reiterated his stance. Omar Lulu said K Rail would be good for the state in the future.

CPM leader EP Jayarajan has blamed miscreants for the K Rail strike.
