MERS virus confirmed in Qatar

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed the outbreak of the MERS virus in Qatar. The 50-year-old man was diagnosed with MERS, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. He had direct contact with camels.

The person who was confirmed to be infected with the virus was admitted to the hospital. An official statement from the Ministry of Public Health said that he was receiving treatment and care in accordance with Qatar’s national protocol for those who have been diagnosed or suspected of having MERS. None of those who came in contact with the patient showed any symptoms. They will also be monitored for 14 days as per the National Protocol.

The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, is taking all precautionary measures and preventive measures to control the spread of the disease. MERS, a type of coronavirus (MERS – CoV) virus, infects organs in the respiratory system. However, it differs from the worldwide novel Corona virus (Covid – 19). The two viruses differ in the source, mode of spread, and severity of the disease.

The Ministry of Public Health has directed the public to comply with health and safety regulations and to pay special attention to those with serious illnesses and diseases affecting the immune system. The Ministry of Health has also directed people to wash their hands with water, soap or hand sanitizer, avoid contact with camels and seek medical attention if they show any symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath.
