Norwegian Lyon striker Ada Hegerberg, the first women’s Ballon d’Or in history, will return to the national team after almost five years of international break, Norwegian television TV2 assured Wednesday.
The 26-year-old will be on the list unveiled by the federation on Thursday for two friendlies in April, opening the door to her participation in the Euros this summer, according to the Scandinavian channel.
Asked by AFP, his agent declined to comment, while the federation did not respond.
The Norwegian star had withdrawn from the national team after a disappointing Euro-2017, citing in particular a gender inequality in the bonuses paid by the federation.
Victim of a serious knee injury which kept her out of the field for almost two years, Ada Hegerberg returned to competition with Lyon last fall.
In November, the player with 38 goals in 66 caps said that the door remained open to a return to the Norwegian jersey.
«It was a decision that was made in 2017, there are no regrets on my part, it was necessary“, had declared at the time the player to the French channel Canal +.
«This does not mean that it is a situation that will last throughout my career. The door has never been closed“, she confided.
The federation, in particular its new president Lise Klaveness, was working to bring her back.
Norway has qualified for the next European Championship, this summer in England (July 6 to 31). It is part of group A alongside the host country in particular.
