This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
According to analysts, Ukrainian troops are actively using improved combined arms tactics, including the use of electronic warfare (EW), long-range strikes and mechanized assaults. This is causing significant concern among the Russian military.
According to the ISW report, Ukrainian troops carried out attacks in three key areas:
Berdinsko-Novosotnitsky direction (northeast of Sudzhi): three waves of mechanized attacks were carried out using up to a battalion of armored vehicles.
Leonidovo (southeast of Korenevo): intensification of offensive actions.
Pushkarnoye (east of Sudzhi): reinforced assault of up to a platoon.
Geolocation data published on January 5 confirm the advance of Ukrainian forces in the fields southwest of the Berdin farm and the entrance to the southern part of the village. Russian sources also note the presence of Ukrainian troops in Cherkasy Porechny, Martynovka, Mikhailovka and other areas northeast of Sudzhi.
Improved Ukrainian tactics
ISW emphasizes that Ukrainian forces effectively combine ground operations with the use of electronic warfare. This significantly complicates the actions of Russian troops, depriving them of the ability to use drones. Russian sources complain that Ukrainian electronic warfare systems are neutralizing the operation of drones, including FPVs and Lancets. Only drones operating on fiber optic cables remain active.
In addition, Ukraine is actively using long-range strikes, including HIMARS systems, to impede the deployment of Russian reinforcements, artillery systems and drone operators. Such strikes were recorded in the area of Bolshoy Soldatskoye and other locations.
Difficulties of Russian adaptation
ISW analysts note that Russian forces are having difficulty adapting to new Ukrainian tactics. The use of long-range strikes and electronic warfare creates significant problems for Russian defense. These actions indicate that Ukrainian troops are using more effective and technologically advanced tactics in the Kursk region.
The current offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces could be either a diversionary maneuver or part of a larger operation, ISW notes. However, the situation on the battlefield highlights the growing problems of Russian troops in countering Ukrainian innovations.

The military expert explained the offensive in the Kursk region by saying that the moment was chosen.
