One-year contract extension option activated until summer 2026… “I’m proud”

‘Captain’ Son Heung-min smiled brightly as he continued to play with Tottenham Hotspur of the English Professional Football Premier League (EPL) for another year.
On the 7th (local time), the Tottenham club announced through its official channels, “We are exercising the option to extend the contract for Son Heung-min,” and “The contract is now valid until the summer of 2026.”
Son Heung-min, who joined Tottenham in August 2015 and advanced to the EPL stage, will wear the Tottenham uniform for 11 years including the period of this contract.
Son Heung-min, who scored 169 goals in 431 official games for Tottenham, ranks 4th in the club’s total score.
He also provided the most assists (68) ever for a Tottenham player.
In the 2021-2022 season, he was the EPL’s joint top scorer (23 goals), and received the FIFA Puskás Award in 2020.
Son Heung-min is the first and only Asian player to receive the Puskas Award, which is given to the EPL top scorer and the player who scored the best goal of the year.
Son Heung-min expressed his thoughts about the contract extension through the club’s social media (SNS) on the 8th.
He said, “I am really grateful. I love my time with this club. I spent almost 10 years here. “We are proud to have extended our contract for another year.”
Also, regarding his role as captain, “I have a lot of responsibility. Tottenham is the place every EPL player dreams of. It is a place that children dream of. “As a captain, I have to always be one step ahead, set an example, be a leader, and always do the right thing,” he said.
He emphasized, “It may be difficult and burdensome at times, but you must always ask that of yourself.”
Tottenham is doing poorly in the league this season. Among the EPL points achieved, they are currently ranked 12th out of 20 teams (24 points).
Fortunately, they have reached the semifinals of the League Cup (Carabao Cup) and are looking for a chance to win. Tottenham will play the first leg of the League Cup semifinals against Liverpool on the 9th.
