jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of the Southeast Sulawesi Hanura Party DPD, Wa Ode Nurhayati, appreciated the Constitutional Court’s decision which removed the minimum threshold for the percentage of nominations for presidential and vice presidential candidates in Article 222 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.

According to Wa Ode Nurhayati, so far it has been difficult for small and new parties to build political movements and bring alternative figures into every presidential election (pilpres). As a result, parties with large vote acquisitions are used as representative symbols.

“Indonesian democracy is as bright as the sun, from the people by the people and for the people,” said Wa Ode in his statement, Sunday (5/1).

Wa Ode Nurhayati emphasized that the Constitutional Court’s decision was relevant if it referred to the provisions of Article 6 A Paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution which states that presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs are proposed by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the general election before the general election is held.

“If a restrictive legal interpretation of the provisions of the 1945 Constitution is carried out, it will mean that the PT is not known and that presidential and vice presidential candidates (may) be proposed by all political parties,” he said.

The National Forhati Presidium added that the Constitutional Court’s decision would open up opportunities for the public to engage in active politics. According to him, all elements can build a social base with various styles. Therefore, he said, this is why for a long time many people have not really agreed with PT being implemented.

“No matter how small, the people’s voice should be respected, it should not be channeled for any reason, such as PT, money politics, power intervention and/or the like,” said Wa Ode Nurhayati. (mcr4/jpnn)
