A court in Brazil has ordered an investigation against an IDF soldier in the country on suspicion of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in the Gaza Strip. Local media reported that Israel was allegedly trying to smuggle the soldier out of the country.
According to publications, the investigation began after a complaint was filed by the anti-Israel organization Hind Rajab, based in Belgium. The complaint alleges that the soldier participated in the destruction of houses in Gaza. The document, which is 500 pages long, states that the destroyed buildings served as shelters for refugees.
According to the charges, the destruction was carried out using explosives in November of this year, after the end of active hostilities. The organization called for the soldier’s temporary arrest, saying there was a risk of him escaping or having evidence destroyed.
The organization’s lawyer said in an interview with the local press: “The soldier is suspected of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
Previously, a similar complaint was filed in Chile and Argentina. The charges concerned another soldier who was allegedly traveling in the Patagonia region. The authorities of these countries have already launched an investigation and are trying to establish the whereabouts of the suspect. According to preliminary data, we are talking about two different soldiers.
