As argued by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dimants obtained a professional qualification degree as a health and sports specialist, a bachelor’s degree in social sciences in law and a master’s degree in business management. He has experience in implementing industry policy and strategy in collaboration with industry professional organizations. For the last six years, Dimants has been the director of the Anti-Doping Office of Latvia.

Dimants stated at the government meeting that, when changing his position, he sees it as an essential priority to continue supporting the initiatives started by the Latvian Anti-Doping Office, talking about safe sports for all, including the protection of children in sports.

As a priority task, he sees the need to work with the MoH and its sector on secondary data to make research-based decisions.

At the same time, he pointed out that public health cannot be the competence of one center, but cooperation between different departments should be promoted.

Dimant also pointed out that he will focus on vaccination issues, stating that, in his opinion, there should be control and accounting of how vaccination processes take place in the country.

On the other hand, the current director of SPKC, certified health care management doctor Iveta Gavare, who led SPKC from 2016, including during the Covid-19 pandemic phase, “in order to strengthen the capacity of the ministry in strategic planning” will be transferred to the Ministry of Strategic Planning and Preparedness Department from February 24 in the position of director.
