TAP launches project to prepare infrastructure for hydrogen supplies together with Penspen

by times news cr

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline Consortium (TAP AG) has entered into an agreement with Penspen to provide infrastructure gap analysis services to assess the pipeline’s readiness to integrate hydrogen.

As reported by Day.Az, Penspen’s engineering team from the UK will conduct detailed data analysis and field assessment of TAP ground facilities (AGI), linear valves (BV) and compressor stations (CS). The study aims to assess the feasibility of introducing hydrogen mixtures into existing gas infrastructure. This is in line with TAP’s strategy to expand capacity for new volumes of hydrogen and other renewable gases, contributing to long-term sustainability and decarbonization in the region.

The company said Penspen will support TAP in ensuring the safe and sustainable blending of hydrogen, while maintaining the safety and reliability of TAP’s existing gas transmission infrastructure in Europe.

It is worth noting that TAP ensures the transportation of natural gas from the Greek border with Turkey to the southern part of Italy, providing the opportunity to supply gas to various European countries.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline provides a direct and cost-effective transportation route within the Southern Gas Corridor, a 3,500-kilometer gas chain that stretches from the Caspian Sea to Europe.
