The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government, Al-Taher Al-Baour, confirmed that there are no ties with Israel, stressing that there is no reason for normalization with it.
Al-Baour added in an interview with Al Jazeera that Israel is committing mass massacres and the war must be stopped immediately, noting that Libya joined South Africa’s case before the International Court of Justice to expose Israel’s crimes.
He continued: “We do not recognize the existence of the State of Israel, and the Palestinian issue is central to the Arab world.”
The Acting Foreign Minister called for the necessity of pressing by all means for a ceasefire in Gaza and sending humanitarian aid.
On another level, Al-Baour announced their rejection of any military presence on Libyan territory without a prior agreement with the unity government and in accordance with a bilateral cooperation framework that serves the country.
He pointed out that the internationally recognized government is the unity government, and the government in charge is not dealt with by the international community and it has no right to conclude any international agreements.
Al-Baour also confirmed that the Syrian embassy will be opened in the capital, Tripoli, in the coming period, and said: “We have a caretaker and staff carrying out their work at the Libyan embassy in the capital, Damascus.”
Regarding the situation in Sudan, Al-Baour said: “We made persistent efforts to stop the fighting in Sudan through a political initiative… and our efforts continue to stop the war in Sudan and we stand at the same distance from both sides of the conflict.”
