The provocative statements of the US President-elect Donald Trump about the possible annexation of Greenland and Canada to the US, the regaining of control over the Panama Canal and the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico have caused anger and confusion not only in the mentioned places, but also among US allies in other countries. The active efforts of the billionaire Elon Musk, who has become one of D. Trump’s most ardent supporters and associates, to influence the domestic politics of the United Kingdom and the German parliamentary election campaign have further increased concern and confusion.
Some experts in international politics are of the opinion that D. Trump’s statements are part of his strategy to first come up with impossible demands, and then, in the course of negotiations, achieve maximum concessions from the other side. Others, on the other hand, point out that these statements contradict, at least in part, his own earlier statement that the United States will no longer play the role of the world’s policeman and will not engage in new wars.
