Wildfire damage spreads… “Schedule changed due to player safety reasons”
Due to the impact of a large forest fire that occurred in Los Angeles (LA), California, USA, the departure schedule of Jeong-hoo Lee (27, San Francisco Giants), who was scheduled to leave the US, was also changed.
Rico Sports Agency, Lee Jung-hoo’s domestic management company, said on the 11th, “Due to the LA forest fire, Lee Jung-hoo’s departure flight was inevitably changed.”
Lee Jeong-hoo was originally scheduled to fly to LA on the afternoon of the 12th and then move to Phoenix, Arizona, the site of the team’s spring camp.
However, as the wildfires in the LA area spread and damage increased, it became inevitable to change flights, so it was decided to go to Las Vegas, Nevada rather than LA. The departure date was also changed to the night of the 13th instead of the 12th.
The agency explained, “We decided to change the departure schedule for player safety reasons,” and added, “We were concerned that unexpected situations such as delayed departure would occur due to the poor local situation in LA.”
After arriving in Las Vegas, Jeonghoo Lee plans to move to Phoenix to prepare for spring camp.
Lee Jung-hoo, who had high expectations by signing a large six-year contract worth $113 million prior to last season, ended the season early due to a shoulder injury, leaving a mark of disappointment.
Lee Jeong-hoo, who only had a batting average of 0.262, 2 home runs, and 8 RBIs in 37 games in his first season in the major leagues, is aiming for a leap forward this year in his second season.
When he returned to Korea in October of last year, he said, “Rehabilitation is almost over and I have recovered 80-90%,” and expressed his determination to “prepare for winter with the mindset of starting again.”
