Personal computer users in 2024 most often launched games that were released a year ago or later. This was reported by PC Gamer with reference to a Steam report, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
The site’s annual report shows that 15 percent of gamers’ time on Steam was devoted to games released in 2024. Players devoted 47 percent of their time to titles that were introduced no later than 7 years ago. 37 percent – for games that appeared 8 years ago or more.
Media journalists noted that players have ceased to be interested in new releases, and this is a trend in recent years. Although in 2023, users launched new video games even less often – a year ago, only 9 percent of gaming time was devoted to them.
The PC Gamer article states that one of the reasons for this trend is the high interest of gamers in online games that were released more than a year ago and are still relevant. Experts included Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and PUBG among them. There are also bugs that are often found in new games: gamers put them off for the future, expecting the developers to fix the problems after a certain time.
