BOLZANO. For many people from Bolzano it is the place of their heart: the little beach near the yellow bridge, at the point where the Talvera stream and the Isarco river converge, and where different species of birds coexist in dozens, in a wonderful spectacle of urban nature. A place frequented by families, who take their children to see the ducks, elderly people for a walk and anyone who wants to enjoy a small and precious corner of peace, to be protected at all costs. “Unfortunately it has been in complete disrepair for months,” protests Michela Corruggiero, a former district councilor and resident in the area. Every day, walking with the dog, he crosses that point of the walks witnessing a “shameful” sight.
Hidden among the shrubs, since November, lie the remains of an abandoned illegal bivouac. Tattered clothes, remains of mattresses, plastic and waste of all kinds. Degradation, as we know, invites more degradation, and as time passes without the area being cleaned up, someone is feeling legitimized to abandon cans and rubbish on the lawn and in the rest of the area.
In addition to damaging the image of the pleasant place, “I was ashamed – explains Corruggiero – when I saw a group of tourists notice the abandoned rubbish”, this situation represents a danger for the ecosystem, given the waste that ends up in the rain with the river and the poor ducks who risk ingesting them and suffocating.
«Despite various reports to the mountain basins office of the province, after three months the situation yesterday morning (Wednesday for those reading, ed.) was still this – explains Michela Corruggiero – It is an already complex area, given the suspected presence of situations of drug dealing or other illicit activities, so leaving all that degradation does nothing but give the impression that that area is abandoned to itself. All this discourages citizens from frequenting it, and it is a real shame, as well as being a defeat for the whole city.”
Degradation behind the “Sportcity”
Dirt and waste also reported in the Sportcity area in Maso della Pieve. Among the abandoned cans and plastic, it is not uncommon to find scrap metal of all kinds, bicycle rims, destroyed chairs and other bulky waste, abandoned in a public green area.
«This is what we deserve? For years and years now, especially this area has been degraded – the protest of a resident on social media – The only “park” in the area, the only place where I can take my little girl to play and walk. We can’t go on like this.” BUT
