Microsoft has acknowledged the presence of a critical Windows Defender antivirus bug in Windows 11.

Media journalists noticed that on December 12, Microsoft talked about a critical vulnerability tracked under the identifier CVE-2024-49071. It affects the built-in Windows Defender program and potentially allows attackers to steal sensitive information.
Microsoft engineers said that the error has been detected, but users should not worry or take any action. The company explained that the problem was resolved on the Microsoft server side. “This is what a good response from the security team looks like,” Forbes journalists commented on the solution to the problem.
The company also explained that due to an error, the Windows Defender service created an index of personal or confidential documents that could be accessed by unauthorized users. However, experts are not aware of a single case of hacking.
