The Football Association announced on this day, “The election on the 23rd, which was scheduled for the resignation of all members of the Election Steering Committee, has been canceled. We will discuss general matters regarding the future presidential election, including the reorganization of the Election Steering Committee, and announce it again.”
Accordingly, the election for the President of the Football Association, in which current Chairman Chung Mong-gyu, who is running for a fourth term, and candidates Huh Jung-moo and Shin Moon-seon are engaged in a three-way race, has once again hit a snag.
Originally, the presidential election was scheduled for the 8th, but the schedule was canceled when the court accepted Candidate Heo’s request for a temporary injunction on the 7th, claiming that an unfair election was suspected. On the 9th, the Election Steering Committee rescheduled the election date to the 23rd, but Candidates Heo and Shin protested, saying, “We cannot accept that we are competing in a biased and unfair situation created by the Election Steering Committee appointed by Chairman Chung’s executive department,” and the entire Election Steering Committee resigned. It continued.
It is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time to confirm the date for the election of the President of the Football Association, as it is necessary to go through procedures such as reorganizing the election management committee, redrawing the electoral college, and creating a list of voters.
