Tens of thousands of people will hold a rally for and against the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol in the Gwanghwamun area of downtown Seoul and Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu on the 11th. Severe road congestion is expected due to traffic restrictions in some sections.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of Yoon Seok-yeol and Great Social Reform will hold a rally calling for impeachment in front of Dongsipjagak in Gyeongbokgung Palace from 4 PM on this day to Naeja-dong. Afterwards, they plan to march through Ujeongguk-ro and Namdaemun-ro to the Bank of Korea intersection. The number of people reported for the rally is approximately 30,000.
Prior to this, the National University Students’ Current Affairs Conference to Resign Yoon Seok-yeol plans to hold the ‘6th College Student Current Affairs Conference’ in the two lanes in front of Woldae in Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung Palace, from 2 to 3:10 p.m.
The Liberty Unification Party and the National Movement for the Restoration of Korea (Daegukbon) will hold an anti-impeachment rally on the same day at 1 p.m. on the one-way street from in front of Dongwha Duty Free Shop near Exit 6 of Gwanghwamun Station to Daehanmun. The number of people reported for the rally is approximately 30,000.
The New Liberty Alliance also plans to hold an anti-impeachment rally on the same day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. in front of the Lutheran Church in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, near the presidential residence. The number of people reported for the rally was 35,000.
The police plan to maintain traffic flow as much as possible by operating variable lanes during rallies and marches. About 160 traffic police will be deployed around the rally and march sections to manage traffic, including vehicle detours.
A police official said, “Traffic congestion is expected in the vicinity of the assembly venues, including Sejong-daero and Sajik-ro in the downtown area, and Hannam-daero in Yongsan.” said.
