However, it is pointed out that Acting Choi effectively rejected the request of the Ministry of Mutual Justice to support the execution of an arrest warrant while requesting an agreement with the special prosecution for the insurrection.
Noh Jong-myeon, floor spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing, “The acting president took notice of the insurgency leaders and the Secret Service and ultimately decided to bide their time as they wished,” adding, “This reaffirmed the condition that the insurrectionists have been demanding all along: an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties.” He said. On the other hand, an official of the People Power Party’s floor leadership said, “This is a request to the effect that it is necessary to resolve the current conflict situation and stabilize the political situation.”
The ruling party plans to begin discussions on proposing its own special prosecution law in response to the Democratic Party’s re-introduction of the special prosecution law at next week’s general meeting of lawmakers.
