Under this context, with the objective of clarifying doubts and denying beliefs, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) carried out an exhaustive analysis published in the January 2025 edition of the Consumer Magazinewhere 40 products were examined, differentiating them into two main categories: 16 genuine American cheeses and 24 alternatives that imitate this type of cheese.
Within the categories that Profeco qualified to determine whether or not it was American cheese were:
- Healthcare quality
- Nutrient composition
- Commercial information
- Net content
- Type of fats used
- Labeling compliance
Meanwhile, to consider that it is truly 100% American cheese, its composition must contain dairy products, such as milk powder, casein, milk solids and other ingredients such as stabilizers, preservatives, coloring—some of natural origin.
