Some social media pages circulated news claiming that a measure had been issued to release the accused, “Abdullah Al-Senussi.”
Regarding this news, the Ministry of Justice of the National Unity Government confirmed that “the information being published is misleading, and the accused, Abdullah Al-Senussi, is appearing before the judiciary. He is still detained and subject to trial, and there is no truth to the existence of any procedure for his release.”
The Ministry of Justice called on “all citizens to beware of campaigns of unknown origin that attempt to stir up public opinion with misleading and untrue information.”
The Ministry called on “all media outlets to follow the official media platforms affiliated with the Ministry of Justice or all components of the judicial authority to follow any news related to the conduct of justice and all matters related to any case presented before the Libyan judiciary.”
For its part, the National Unity Government affirmed “its full commitment to respecting the judicial process and the independence of the Libyan judiciary, and stressed not allowing interference in judicial procedures in any way.”
She said: “This position reflects the government’s belief in the rule of law as a basic pillar for achieving justice and ensuring the rights of victims and all parties.”
It is noteworthy that “Al-Senussi faces several charges, including those related to committing crimes against humanity and attempting to suppress the February 17 revolution. Al-Senussi was the second man in the Gaddafi regime, and he has been detained in a prison in Tripoli since 2012, after Mauritania handed him over to Libya after he fled there.” .
