Two traditional markets in Gapyeong-gun were selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ public offering project. Gapyeong-gun (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 10th that Seorak Noonmegol Market was selected by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups for the first step foundation creation project for specialized markets, and Gapyeong Jatgoeul Market was selected for the market management package support project and will receive intensive support.

The First Step Foundation Project aims to strengthen the basic capabilities of traditional markets and provides a budget of up to 300 million won per year to help them leap into specialized markets. Accordingly, Seorak Noonmegol Market plans to carry out various activities to create a ‘market that people want to visit again’, such as producing goblin signs, expanding Onnuri gift certificates, improving hygiene and cleanliness, promoting camping experiences, SNS marketing education, and installing alley lights.

Since being registered as a traditional market in 2020, Seorak Noonmegol Market has been selected for various projects such as Gyeonggi Shared Market (2021), Gyeonggi-do Innovative Market (2022), and Digital Traditional Market Development Project (2023-2024).

Gapyeong Jatgoeul Market, which was selected for the market management package support project, successfully completed the cultural tourism market development project in 2023 and 2024 and plans to grow into a sustainable tourism market by operating experience programs, creating pop-up playgrounds, and holding performances. We plan to continue.

Separately from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups project, all four traditional markets in Gapyeong-gun were selected for the traditional market manager training project hosted by Gyeonggi Province. Through this, the four traditional markets plan to hire professional personnel to strengthen merchant organization capabilities and accelerate the promotion of various support projects.

County Governor Seo Tae-won said, “Two traditional markets were selected for this Ministry of SMEs and Startups public offering project, providing a foundation to revitalize traditional markets suffering from the economic recession and decline in consumption.” He added, “The four traditional markets in the district are participating in various support projects.” “We have high expectations as we have been consistently selected, and the county will take the lead in revitalizing local commerce with active support,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gapyeong-gun (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 10th that starting the new year, it is further strengthening on-site communication by directly listening to the voices of residents and reflecting them in military administration.

According to the county, in order to more practically hear the vivid voices of local residents, the ‘village visit’ event held at the beginning of the year was changed to ‘meeting with town residents’ starting this year. Accordingly, we are breaking away from the existing formal events and meeting formats and involving as many residents as possible to listen to diverse opinions from all walks of life. In particular, the conversation time with residents has been doubled from 50 minutes to 100 minutes starting this year, further improving its quality.

Regarding strengthening communication, County Governor Seo Tae-won said in a recent New Year’s address, “Administration is ultimately for the happiness of residents, so we will listen to even the smallest voices and reduce inconveniences.” He added, “In the new year, more than anything, we will listen more closely to the voices of residents.” “We will provide practical help,” he pledged.

Accordingly, starting with Gapyeong-eup on the 9th, the county mayor plans to tour six towns and villages until the 14th to continue ‘meetings with residents of the towns and villages.’

At the ‘2025 Meeting with Gapyeong-eup Residents’ event held at the Gapyeong-eup Administrative Welfare Center on the 9th, 30 people, including village heads and representatives of civic and social organizations, representing local residents, participated and suggested local inconveniences and pending issues. Through this, we had time to share requests and problems in various fields such as transportation, welfare, and local commerce and think about solutions together.

The main suggestions made at the site on this day were △resolving the inconvenience of driving for local residents due to traffic congestion in Nami Island, △measuring to secure parking lots for local residents, △improving the transportation system that inconveniences traveling in local residential areas, △expanding the promotion of 5-day market information, and △developing Gapyeong’s representative food and income-generating crops. △The focus was on issues closely related to the daily lives of local residents, such as the 2nd Gyeongchun National Road and measures to expand major transportation infrastructure.

In this regard, the county governor said, “We expect this meeting to be a valuable opportunity to bring Gapyeong-gun residents and the administration one step closer,” adding, “As active communication with residents is the driving force behind the development of county government, we will continue to listen to vivid voices from the field more often in the future.” “We will reflect this in the military administration and create a better Gapyeong together,” he said.

On this day, the meeting event with Gapyeong-eup residents was attended by County Governor Seo, Gapyeong County Council members Choi Won-jung and Kang Min-sook, Gyeonggi Provincial Councilor Lim Gwang-hyeon, and county office bureau/division heads and team leaders, etc., and listened to residents’ opinions.
