Malala Yousafzai says the Taliban are trying to block girls’ education. Malala Yousafzai has said the Taliban will continue to make excuses to prevent girls from attending primary schools.

The Taliban had said it would open girls’ schools last Wednesday, but postponed it, saying it was unclear what uniform to wear. Malala Yousafzai has accused the Taliban of trying to rebuild Afghanistan without educated women.

Promises made after the capture of Afghanistan by the Taliban stated that girls would be given an education. However, Malala said the Taliban had been opposed to educating girls since 1996.

The girls’ school reopened yesterday after a seven-month hiatus in Afghanistan. The Taliban then announced the closure.
The Taliban has announced that girls will not be allowed to attend classes above sixth grade until a new order is issued.

Women have been subjected to gross human rights abuses since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, girls were banned from entering all schools in the country. Apart from denying girls the right to education, women also did not have freedom of movement. Many women are in a situation where they are unable to return to educational institutions. The Taliban’s ban on women from doing most jobs is still widely criticized.
