The constitutionally binding parliamentary consultations come four days after Aoun was elected president.
Since the consultation date was set, the names of several candidates for the post have been circulated by political forces, including Prime Minister Najib Mikati, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, and former ambassador Nawaf Salam, whose name being circulated in the final hours.
Other representatives offered the nomination of Nawaf Salam, who is currently the head of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and who is a respected veteran diplomat in Lebanon whose name is raised during all parliamentary consultations.
Over the past few years, efforts have been intensified to unify the positions of the opposition blocs and independent representatives in order to proceed with the nomination of Salam, instead of Makhzoumi, to reassign the opportunity Mikati misses.
