Information on the “Airline Ratings” website shows that “airBaltic” is ranked 25th in the “Top 25” list of the world’s safest low-cost airlines.
The first place in this list is occupied by “Hong Kong Express”, the second place is “Jetstar Group”, and the third place – “Ryanair”.
On the other hand, in the “Top 25” rating of the safest full-service airlines in the world, the first place is occupied by “Air New Zealand”, the second place is “Qantas”, and the third place is ranked by three airlines – “Cathay Pacific”, “Qatar Airways” and “Emirates”.
The executive director of “Airline Ratings” Sharona Petersen explains that “airBaltic” has a modern fleet of “Airbus 220-300” aircraft, in which the average age of the aircraft is only 4.4 years. Over the past two years, the number of incidents per flight has been very low and there have been no serious incidents at all. Also, Pētersena notes that “airBaltic” flights operate safely even in difficult conditions in winter, when heavy snowfall is often observed.
Airline Ratings is based on a variety of criteria, including fleet age and size, pilot experience and training, number of incidents, and more.
“airBaltic” transported a total of 4.536 million passengers in 2023, which is 35.7% more than in 2022, and made 44,100 flights, which is 18.3% more than the year before.
The audited turnover of “airBaltic” in 2023 amounted to 664.289 million euros, which is 33.2% more than in 2022, and the company also made a profit of 33.852 million euros in contrast to losses a year earlier.
The Latvian state owns 97.97% of “airBaltic” shares, while “Aircraft Leasing 1” owned by financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tūsen – 2.03%.
