Mumbai: MS Dhoni on Thursday stepped down as the captain of the IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK). She has handed over the responsibility to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
The CSK management has issued an official announcement in this regard. Dhoni, who captained CSK for 12 seasons (except 2 seasons) since the start of the IPL, is now one of the heroes of the Chennai team.
Dhoni, who is known to always make timely decisions when it comes to relinquishing the captaincy, has done the same in the CSK captaincy. At the right moment when he was in the national team he handed over the responsibility of Test captaincy first (2014) and then in other formats (2017) to Virat Kohli.
Having then continued as CSKA captain, he has now handed over the responsibility to 33-year-old Jadeja, now in his 40s and realizing that it would not be appropriate for him to continue as captain.

Despite retiring from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni continues to be CSKA’s man of hope. CSK, nicknamed the ‘Dates’ Army’ due to the high number of senior players in age, failed to qualify for the play-off round in 2020 for the first time in IPL history. Still, it is noteworthy that the Dhoni-led team advanced to the next season and won its 4th trophy.
Reigning champions CSK will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of the 15th season on Saturday.
