A labor dispute has been declared in driving test companies

by time news

The Histadrut’s Transportation Workers ‘Union announced today (Thursday) a labor dispute in the driving examiners’ companies Van Taldor and Milgam. This is against the background of threats and violence directed at employees by examinees and their families, in a manner that constitutes a serious injury to their safety and well-being at work, and a demand from employers to reach collective agreements to regulate the issue urgently. The Histadrut tried to resolve the conflict through negotiations, but to no avail.

The declaration of the labor dispute allows for a strike starting from 7.4. It is expected to include 130 employees at Van Taldor and 100 employees at Milgam. Both companies have been operating the array of practical exams since privatized in 2018. Milgam operates the service from the Petah Tikva area to the north, and the Taldor company from the Bnei Brak area to the south.

In recent months, Avi Edri, chairman of the Histadrut’s Transportation Workers’ Union, has sent several letters to Michal Frank, director general of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety, stating, among other things, that in a short period of time there were more than ten acts of violence against practical workers. We have been warned that the Ministry of Transport is not exercising its authority to act against anyone who has resorted to violence by postponing that person’s practical driving test by six months. Examiners who have performed a verbal or physical violence against testers and driving examiners take practical driving tests only after a short period of time. ”

It is also written that “We will ask you to urgently promote the required legislative amendment and / or the change in policy required vis-à-vis the Israel Police and / or the State Attorney’s Office, so that their attack (physical or verbal) will be considered a ‘public servant attack’. “This violent behavior of some of the recipients of the service towards those who perform their public duties for the State of Israel is intolerable, and may endanger the lives and / or harm the health of some of the employees who operate the set of practical driving exams.”

Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David: “Unfortunately, the violence in Israeli society in general, and against service providers in particular, has long since become a scourge of the state. We can not come to terms with a situation where employees do not know if they will return home in the evening in peace, so we had to declare a labor dispute in the driving test companies. I call on the Ministry of Transportation to increase the punishment for those who use violence and to promote the necessary legislative amendments that will help eradicate this serious phenomenon. “

Chairman of the Histadrut Transport Workers’ Union Avi Edri: “We are witnessing the existence of an ugly and dangerous phenomenon of attacking service providers, including bus drivers, doctors, nurses, driving examiners and many other good people. We have decided to fight this dangerous and ugly phenomenon with the tools given to us by the law. The labor dispute we have declared will be used, among other things, for the purpose of combating violence and inciting decision-makers to combat the phenomenon through a deterrent punishment for anyone who attacks service providers wherever they are. Violence cannot be won forever! ”
