During the 465 days of the war, the IDF established complete control over 32.5% of the Gaza Strip, including key strategic areas. Thousands of buildings have been destroyed in these areas and are now home to permanent bases and housing for IDF soldiers.

Buffer zone along the border
Israel has created a 1 km deep buffer zone along the entire border of the Gaza Strip. This zone covers 16% of the region, where more than 4,100 buildings were destroyed. The buffer zone is intended to provide security and prevent attacks from Palestinian groups.
Central part: Netzarim axis
In central Gaza, the IDF controls 49 square kilometers, representing 13.5% of the strip’s total area. In this area, all residential buildings were completely destroyed, which emphasizes the scale of destruction in this area.
Southern part: Philadelphia axis
In the south, in the area known as the Philadelphia Axis, the army occupied 12 square kilometers, equivalent to 3% of Gaza. More than 6,932 buildings have been destroyed here, making the area one of the worst affected by the fighting.
Complete control over these zones gives Israel a strategic advantage.
