The number of Hong Kong people dying from COVID-19 in spite of most infected with the Omicron strain which is many times less severe than the Delta species because
1. 60% of Hong Kong people have received 2 doses of vaccine and 50% of Hong Kong people aged 70 years and over have not received a single dose.
In people aged 80 and over, 50% received only one dose, 37% received 2 doses, and only 2% received 3 doses.
2. The vaccine that 80% of Hong Kong people receive is the inactivated Sinovac vaccine. The high efficiency was not enough for the Omicron strain.
Only 20% of Hong Kong residents choose Pfizer mRNA vaccination.
A Hong Kong study found that inactivated vaccines are not as good at preventing death from the Omicron strain as the Pfizer vaccine.
