West Bengal violence: CBI probe

Kolkata: The Kolkata High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the shooting death of eight people in India’s West Bengal city.

Following this, the CBI team went to the spot yesterday. They collected many clues there. The police also supported the group of eight.

Badhu Sheikh, a member of the ruling party in West Bengal, was assassinated in his village of Bokdui, Rampurhat in Birbhum district. In the ensuing violence, unidentified individuals set fire to several houses in the village.

Eight people were burnt alive in the incident which took place on the 21st of this month. The Kolkata High Court voluntarily filed the case following a statewide uproar.

The High Court yesterday directed the CBI to conduct an inquiry into the incident. In addition, the High Court has directed the CBI to file an inquiry report by April 7.

The incident is now being investigated by a special investigation team. The CBI will now investigate the matter following a court order. The verdict was reportedly a setback for the Trinamool Congress, the ruling party in West Bengal.
