This is a new serious side effect associated with highly prescribed drugs for nausea and vomiting, such as Motilium, Primperan, Vogalene or Vogalib (sold without a prescription). Long identified as responsible for cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death, these antidopaminergic antiemetics (containing domperidone, metopimazine or metoclopramide) are now associated with an increased risk of ischemic cerebrovascular accident, the most frequent stroke, linked to a clogged blood vessel.

However, these products are widely used in the general population. We count “at least one delivery in 4 million people in France during the year 2017 for metopimazine”, notes for example Anne Bénard-Laribière, pharmacologist and epidemiologist at Inserm-University of Bordeaux. Moreover, they are prescribed “in the majority of cases for comfort for mild nausea and vomiting caused by gastroenteritis or other mild viral disease”…
