A fire broke out this evening (Saturday night), around 10:30 PM, in the building where Rabbi Eliezer Berland, the leader of the Shuvu Banim congregation, lives, at 13 HomaShila Street 3 in Jerusalem.

Firefighters and rescuers rushed to the scene found a fire spreading in a warehouse in a five-story residential building.

Firefighters immediately began firefighting and searching for trapped people.

During their operation, they learned that Rabbi Eliezer Berland lives in the building, who fled with the other occupants of the building to the upper floors, so as not to be harmed by the heavy smoke that spread in the building.

A tenant who was trapped was rescued by the fighters, unharmed.

Damage was done to the synagogue of the Shuvu Banim congregation.

About an hour later the fire was brought under control, and the firefighters’ crews completed the smoke release operation and final scans.

Rabbi Reshef Moti Melamed, commander of the ‘Nation Station’ shift who commanded the firefighting operations: “The fire allegedly started in the warehouse, which is part of the five-story building.

“During the scans, we rescued one trapped person, who, to my delight, was found unharmed.

“Rabbi Berland, along with the other tenants, fled to the upper floors until the end of the event. A fire investigator has now arrived at the scene and has already begun investigating the circumstances of the incident. “
