With the arrival of the pandemic, unlocking the mobile when we are on the street has become more complicated. At least, for those users who have compatible devices with facial reader, as is the case with the most recent iPhone. After a couple of years looking for a solution to the mask problem, Apple has added a new functionality in terminals compatible with iOS 15.4 that allows it.
Thanks to this new tool, users will be able to unlock the ‘smartphone’ on the street without having to remove the mask. Also make payments without having to type any code on the screen. We explain step by step how you can take advantage of this new tool.
What devices can I use it on?
Not all iPhones are compatible with Face IDwhich is what Apple’s facial recognition system is called.
Functionality came with the iPhone X. Be that as it may, the apple firm shares that it will only be possible for them to unlock the ‘smartphone’ with the mask on those users who have an iPhone 12 or an iPhone 13.
The functionality is also not available on iPad or any other device made by the company.
How do I have to configure the iPhone?
In order to configure the iPhone In order for it to be possible to unlock it with the mask on, the user must go to the ‘Settings’ app. There you will find the option ‘Face ID and code’ and, inside, a section that includes ‘Face ID with a mask’.
If it is activated, the user will have to start analyzing his face with the ‘smartphone’ again. To carry out the process it will not be necessary to wear the mask, since the reader looks at the eye areas.
What if I don’t have an iPhone 12 or 13?
Those users who do not have an iPhone 12 or 13 have another tool that allows them to unlock the ‘smartphone’ using Face ID with the mask on. However, they will have to wear an Apple Watch on their wrist.
To set up the tool, go to the ‘Face ID & Passcode’ option, scroll down to ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’, then turn on the feature next to the watch name. “If the watch does not have wrist detection activated, you will be asked to activate it,” they explain from Apple.
In order to use the function, the user must have the ‘smartwatch’ unlocked. After this, you will only have to pick up the phone and look directly at the screen to be able to use it without having to type in the numerical code.
