The United Kingdom has announced that all sanctions on Russia will be lifted if the war against Ukraine is stopped.
Russia has declared war on Ukraine for trying to join NATO. The attack, which began on the 24th of last month, has been going on for more than a month. The Russian military is targeting cities in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, Kharkiv and Liv. Thousands of people, including children and innocent civilians, have been killed in Russia’s brutal attacks. Millions of items have been damaged. Fearing for their lives, the Ukrainian people are taking refuge in neighboring countries. The European Union says about 3 million people have taken refuge in neighboring countries so far.
Various countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia, have imposed sanctions on Russia over its military operations in Ukraine. The UK has frozen assets worth about Rs 5,100 crore owned by Russia and imposed sanctions on the country’s businessmen and the rich. Russia continues to attack Ukraine, despite sanctions.
In this case, the UK government has said that all sanctions will be lifted if the attack on Ukraine is stopped. Speaking to reporters, British Foreign Secretary Lis Truss said sanctions on Russia would be lifted if troops were withdrawn from Ukraine. He stipulated that Russia must ensure that it does not carry out aggression against Ukraine in the future.
