Rice smuggling :-
Theni District It has been alleged that mysterious persons continue to smuggle ration rice to Kerala through Kumuli and Kambam Mettu on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. Police intensified surveillance work after learning that mysterious persons were smuggling ration rice hidden in a small bag.
In this situation, the police at the Kumuli check post in Theni district yesterday expedited the surveillance work. Tamil Nadu police officers then raided a Kerala government bus coming from Tamil Nadu to Kerala. The person traveling in the bus was carrying a sack containing coconut husks. Police searched the suspect’s sack and confiscated the ration of rice hidden in the bag.
The police seized the ration rice from the persons who tried to smuggle 500 kg of ration rice by hiding the ration rice in a sack with a coconut husk on top of it. The seized 500 kg of ration rice was also handed over to the Food Smuggling Prevention Police.
Similarly, the police found women trying to smuggle ration rice hidden in their bags while going to work at the Kerala Auction Estate hill daily. So far 100 kg of ration rice has been confiscated from women going to work in the hills.
Police have also warned that stern action will be taken if ration rice is smuggled across the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border
