The city of Shanghai is cut in two, along the physical boundary formed by the Huangpu River at its center. To the east, the district of Pudong, built at the end of the last century between the river and the East China Sea, is in confinement. To the west, the historic city of Shanghai and its multiple landward extensions live normally. From March 28, the crossing of the river is interrupted for eight days, except for the health personnel who have been requisitioned to go and carry out PCR tests on the more than 10 million inhabitants living in this eastern part.
“Shanghai is divided in two so that we can carry out PCR tests in the whole city in two stages”, specify the economic site Caixin Wang. In the eastern part of the city, the lifting of isolation measures is scheduled for 1is April. The western part will undergo the same process from 1is to April 5.
For several weeks now, the metropolis, one of the largest in China with 25 million permanent residents, has been facing an upsurge in Covid-19 cases. But the municipal authorities did everything to escape confinement. The deputy director of the Fudan University Institute of Medicine, Wu Fan, finally explained to the site that the multiplication of outbreaks of co
