New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court on Monday ruled that hijab is not a fundamental religious right. The All India Islamic Personal Law Board (AIICB) yesterday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the ruling.

In it, ‘The court should not interfere in religious matters. Therefore, the judgment of the Karnataka High Court in the hijab case should be quashed. Earlier, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court NV Ramana had categorically stated that ‘petitions related to hijab cannot be listed and heard as a matter of urgency’.
