The stock market, which had been in decline this morning, saw a sharp rise this afternoon. Bank and auto stocks were behind the rise. Thus, the Nifty again reached 17,200 points. European stocks rose on Monday in view of the talks between Ukraine and Russia. The Ukrainian president has said he is ready to hold talks with Russia to maintain peace.

The Sensex, which had recovered from the day’s low, rose 231 points to close at 57,593. The Sensex Midcap Index fell 93 points to close at 23,695. On the other hand, the BSE smallcap fell 147 points to close at 27,653. Shares of Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers in the Sensex.

The Nifty 50 index rose 69 points to 17,222 today. Similarly, the Bank Nifty was up 300 points at 35,710. Shares like Coal India, Etcher Motors, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel were among the top stocks in the Nifty 50 index.
