REVIEW – The Netflix documentary series is based on interesting testimonies from relatives of the young idol and on archive footage, but unfortunately does not deal with the last fifteen years of the rocker’s life.
From Britney Spears to Moby, a host of music documentaries have caused a stir in recent months. On paper, this Netflix movie where Johnny had to talk about Johnny was promising. An original angle edited in five episodes of thirty minutes each, which corresponds to the mode of consumption on the platforms. The producers of Black Dynamite (Mediawan) first call on the documentalist Yann Grasland, the one who knows Hallyday best filmed. But behind the scenes, nothing goes as planned. The first team, directors included, leaves the adventure. Confronted with what really exists in terms of images, the production changes direction. Meanwhile, Netflix is ramping up the buzz around this movie announced as “the most ambitious realized on Johnny Hallyday“. After the success of Johnny Hallyday, his American dream, which attracted 500,000 viewers on Canal+, the French must have wanted to want.
