Hyderabad native stabs Malayalee woman in London; Both are classmates who are friends

London: A young man from Hyderabad brutally stabbed a Malayalee woman with a knife at a restaurant in East London. According to classmates, the two were friends at home. The youth, who was arrested by the police following the incident, is now in remand. Getting bail is not easy as you have been charged with attempted murder.

The incident took place last Friday afternoon at a South Indian restaurant on Barking Road in Eastham, which is densely populated by Indians, including Asians, especially Malayalees. The Malayalee woman who was seriously injured in the stabbing by the young man survived the accident but is still in the NHS hospital in London.

At 2.20 pm on Friday, an Indian man stabbed and injured a Malayalee woman employee of a South Indian restaurant called ‘Hyderabad Wala’ on Barking Road several times. The young man, who arrived at the hotel under the guise of a customer, forcibly subdued the young woman and stabbed her. He also fired at other hotel employees who tried to stop the violence. When they retreated in fear, the young man stabbed the girl several times and later ran away from the restaurant and escaped. Within seconds, the metropolitan police rushed to the scene and apprehended him.


Shriram Amberla (23), a native of Sirsilla, Hyderabad, was arrested by the police. The family of the 22-year-old Malayalee woman also lives in Hyderabad. According to classmates, the two had known each other for a long time. Both attended Manchester University and the University of East London. The East London University, where the woman is studying, said in a statement that it was cooperating with police in all possible ways in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Shriram’s brother Abhishek took to Twitter to seek the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rescue his brother who was arrested in Newham, London. The message was that his brother was under arrest in London and did not know why. This request for assistance indicates that the young man’s family has not yet received accurate information about the incident.

The Metropolitan Police said those with any information about the incident could secretly pass information on the 101 helpline at reference CAD3946 / 25Mar.
