- OnePlus 10 Pro will have 65W low wired charging for North American units.
- Wireless charging seems to stay at 50W.
We’re days away from the global launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro, and OnePlus decided to provide details of its latest release in a forum on Monday. The new phone will be virtually identical inside and out to the variant released earlier this year in China. However, US models will come with a noticeable deterioration in charging.
According to another forum, while OnePlus 10 Pro units in Europe and India will support 80W SuperVOOC charging, the North American variant will only support 65W. This essentially keeps the charging speed in line with previous OnePlus flagship phones. When asked about the decision, a OnePlus forum member explained why US models receive slower charging speeds:
In North America, OnePlus 10 Pro 65W supports SUPERVOOC. In fact, 80W SUPERVOOC does not currently support 110 or 120 VAC – the typical standard for power outlets in the region.”
It’s a shame the US is not getting an increase in shipping speeds. However, OnePlus further states that charging the 10 Pro remains “the fastest charging standard in North America”, able to charge the phone’s 5,000 mAh battery in just 34 minutes. That’s a lot faster than the speeds offered by the best Android phones sold in the US, especially Samsung, which tops its latest flagship at 45W.
Fortunately, wireless charging does not appear to be affected. OnePlus also clarified that the OnePlus 10 Pro will maintain 50W AirVOOC speed, which can fully charge the phone in 47 minutes. The 10 Pro for the US will also have the same Smart Charge Protection feature as the other variants.
OnePlus also highlights other features and specs, such as a first-generation Snapdragon 8 chipset, a custom cooling system, and software improvements that have been brought to OxygenOS 12.1. Hopefully, these things together will allow OnePlus 10 Pro to live up to the claim of “20% better performance and 30% better power efficiency” while avoiding thermal issues with the Galaxy S22.
In the meantime, you can always reserve your OnePlus 10 Pro now to receive a free pair of OnePlus Buds Pro and early delivery.
