Lollapalooza Berlin: German band trio as headliners | free press

Corona twice caused empty stages on the Olympic grounds. This year, however, Lollapalooza Berlin is back. The line-up of the festival should again provide a topic of conversation.

Berlin.

After two years of corona-related failure, the Lollapalooza in Berlin is back. For its sixth edition on September 24th and 25th, the festival announced three bands from Germany as headliners.

The musicians from AnnenMayKantereit (“Pocahontas”) will be there from Cologne. As at the most recent festival in 2019, Kraftklub (“Songs for Liam”) will be back. Three years ago, the rap rock band from Chemnitz delighted many fans on the Olympic site who had bought around 85,000 tickets over the two days of the festival. This time the German trio is completed by Die Fantastischen Vier. The hip-hop band from Stuttgart is celebrating their 30th stage anniversary this year.

Despite the criticism of the lack of women on festival stages, which has persisted for years, Loolapalooza relies on 14 male musicians for the headliners. The line-up is similar for the big names on the electronic dance music EDM stage. The Dutchman Tiësto, Robin Schulz, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Purple Disco Machine and Timmy Trumpet from Australia will provide fast beats there.

Rap fans might be particularly interested in US musicians Machine Gun Kelly (“My Ex’s Best Friend”) or Apache 207 (“Roller”). Casper and Drangsal are also there with appearances, with “Keine Angst” still feature partners. Anne-Marie (“Fuck, I’m Lonely”), Joy Denalane (“Use Me”) and Zoe Wees (“Control”) provide female voices.

The popular US festival was founded in 1991 by Perry Farrell, singer of the band Jane’s Addiction. In 2015 the European premiere took place at the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin. The Olympic site has been the location for the Lollapalooza since 2018. Due to complaints from local residents, the organizers had to turn down the volume there and offer some residents in the area somewhere else to stay for the duration of the festival. (dpa)
