by time news

The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, begins this Wednesday March 30 in Algiers the last stage of his journey in the Middle East and the Maghreb, after having visited Tel-Aviv, Ramallah and Rabat, explains the Algerian daily L’Expression. The official purpose of the visit is to discuss with the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, subjects such as the “regional security and stability, and trade cooperation”.

For L’Expression, the interest of the United States for Algeria is due toits strategic position on an African continent with strong growth potential. Overtaken by Russia, China and Turkey, the United States would like to give a boost to their relations with Algeria.

With Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the head of American diplomacy could address the issue of tensions between Algeria and its Moroccan neighbor and “in particular the consequences of the closure of the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline on the Moroccan economy”.
