Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan loses majority in National Assembly Imran suffered a setback when his main ally, the MQM, joined the Pakistan People’s Party. The setback comes as the United Opposition faces a no-confidence motion. The no-confidence motion will be put to a vote on Sunday, April 3.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has said that Imran Khan has lost a majority in the National Assembly and that opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif will soon become the country’s prime minister. Bhutto has called for a no-confidence vote on Thursday, March 31. Shahbaz Sharif, the current Leader of the Opposition, is the brother of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Imran, meanwhile, changed his mind about addressing the nation. Imran Khan withdrew from addressing the nation after talks with Pakistan Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa. PTI Senator Faisal Javed has said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has postponed the event due to security concerns.

Muttahida Qaumi, a key ally of Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). With this, Imran lost his majority in the National Assembly. The Imran government also lost a majority in the lower house of the Pakistani parliament. The National Assembly has a total of 342 members. The support of 172 members of the National Assembly was enough to pass the no-confidence motion. With the addition of the MQM, the strength of the United Opposition Coalition rose to 177.

Earlier, the Imran Khan government came to power with the support of 179 people. With the departure of its main ally, the MQMP, the PTI-led ruling coalition has shrunk to 164 members. The no-confidence motion, which was introduced in the National Assembly two days ago, will be put to a vote on Sunday. The Pakistan Democratic Movement, a coalition of the main opposition parties, had vowed to topple the government at a rally.

Bilawal Bhutto, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has said that the only way forward for Imran Khan is to resign or walk out of the no-confidence vote. However, Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Twitter that Imran would not resign and would fight till the last ball.
