More than 500 students are staying at the dormitory located at the Bharathiyar University campus on Marudhamalai Road, Coimbatore. The students had lodged a complaint with the university administration over the past few days, alleging that mysterious persons were roaming inside the dormitory with weapons.
As no action has been taken so far, 5 mysterious persons have entered the dormitory again last night. One of them was reported to be naked.
They also raised slogans calling for adequate protection for students staying in university hostels. They demanded that the university vice chancellor come in person to ensure the safety of the students. Following this, the police appeased the students and put them back on the university campus.

Bharathiyar University Vice Chancellor Kaliraj, who came there to get information, held talks with the students. He said a separate team of women would be deployed for security and electric lights would be installed around the hostel premises. Until then, he said, the police would take steps to provide security for the hostel. The students subsequently abandoned the struggle.
