A particularly interesting case today (Thursday) in Sweden. Jonas Yarbaku, a former NBA player who signed for CSKA Moscow, will not be able to play for the national team after signing for the Russian team, according to a statement from the Swedish Basketball Association.
The statement said: “CSKA can not play outside of Russia. Sweden and Swedish sports condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a player on the team you are the representative of Swedish basketball, as a player and as a person. We spoke to Yarbaku before the announcement. His choice to play in Russia contradicts our values. “As a result, Yarbaku will not be able to play for the Swedish national team.”
Yarbaku has previously played for Boston, Detroit, Utah and Golden State. The 35-year-old forward has played for the Moscow Khimki for the past two years and signed with CSKA Moscow yesterday, a move that led to criticism of him in Europe.
